4 Ways To Deal With Pregnancy Aches And Pains

Nellie Ryan

Pregnancy is a wonderful time for many, but it does bring a lot of aches and pains. While they are normal and won't hurt your baby in most cases, you don't want or need to put up with them. Here are four ways to deal with the pregnancy aches and pains so you can enjoy the time with your unborn baby.

1. Keep Your Weight Gain Under Control

Weight gain is normal in pregnancy, but you need to keep it under control. Mayo Clinic states that if you are a normal weight at the beginning of a single-birth pregnancy, you should gain between 25 and 35 pounds during your whole pregnancy. If overweight, you will gain less. If underweight, you'll need to gain more. This is to support your growing baby, and a lot of the weight will be your baby and placenta.

Keeping your weight gain under control will help to minimize the aches and pains you have. By gaining more, you will put extra pressure on your back and hips, the two most common places for pregnancy pains.

2. Go Swimming

Always check with your doctor to ensure exercise is safe for you and your growing baby. If it is, swimming is an excellent form of exercise when you're expecting. The water will make you feel weightless, and it can really help to ease those niggling pains. You'll also find it easier to keep your weight gain under control, while keeping your core strong to support your unborn child.

3. Add a Little Heat

A warm bath may be just what the doctor ordered. You'll want to avoid making it too hot to avoid risks to your baby. If you can't do a bath, why not get a heat pack for your lower back? There are some that you can use over and over again by putting in the microwave. You can also get a hot water bottle and fill it with warm (not boiling) water.

4. Put Your Feet Up

Especially in your third trimester, leg and foot pain will become a problem. Think of the extra weight you are carrying! It's time to put your feet up and relax. This will also help to reduce any swelling you're facing during this point of your pregnancy.

Look after yourself during your pregnancy. By keeping your weight gain under control and exercising safely, you can manage the pain and discomfort you feel. It may be normal, but you don't need to just accept that it will happen.

As an adult in my 50s, I find that my body isn't as strong as it used to be. But I don't let that stop me from enjoying life! In fact, I make every effort to get the treatments I need from my doctor to improve my health. I know that I'm not a senior yet, but I do all I can to prevent the health problems that affect that age group. Because of this, I put together a health blog for people over age 50. My blog isn't a review of what you can easily find on the Internet. It's a plethora of unique information designed to help you find the services you need fast. What my blog doesn't do is tell you what to do for your health. Instead, it offers guidance and options. Please, enjoy the blog and happy reading.
